23-year-old Mason Halsey was born in 2000. Mason is survived by his brother Trevon Halsey and his wife Jeannie, his sister Caitlin Howell and her husband Jeffry, his mother Carla Halsey, and his father, retired Master Chief Thane Halsey.

Halsey was a member of the 5th Company and the Navy Spirit Team, actively participating in leading cheers, dances, and mascot performances during athletic events.

His contributions to both the athletic and spirit aspects of the academy showcased a well-rounded commitment to his community.

Halsey’s academic pursuits were equally noteworthy, he majored in political science. This combination of academic excellence and spirited involvement in Naval Academy activities reflected his dedication to both personal growth and the larger institution.

Kimberly Salyers, Halsey’s spirit coach, shared poignant insights into his character. In an interview with WBALTV, she remembered him as someone always eager to assist in training new team members. Salyers highlighted his commitment beyond the cheer season, mentioning how he would reach out to organize stunt sessions and even obtained his cheer certification to serve as a safety observer.

Beyond his Naval Academy commitments, the roots of Mason Halsey trace back to West Harrison High School, where he graduated in 2020. Reports from the Capital Gazette reveal his involvement in soccer during his high school years, hinting at a well-rounded and active young man.

The Halsey family’s connection with the Navy ran deep with Mason choosing to serve the country through the Naval Academy, following in the footsteps of his father, Thane Halsey, a retired chief command master. Mason is survived by his parents, Thane and Carla Halsey, his sister Caitlin Howell, and her husband Jeffry Howell.

The circumstances of his death are under investigation after he died whilst on leave, the USNA wrote on it’s Facebook page and Halsey was majoring in political science and was a member of the coed cheer team.
