The focus will be on Biles, who hasn’t competed since winning a bronze medal on the balance beam and a silver medal with her team at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Biles won the bronze medal on the balance beam after withdrawing from numerous individual finals in order to concentrate on her mental health while dealing with a bout of the “twisties,” the gymnastics phenomenon when the body and mind become out of sync.
After dealing with a kidney-related health issue that continues to interfere with the consistency of her training, Lee, 20, had her NCAA season cut short in 2023. The Classic will be her first appearance in elite gymnastics since earning the all-around gold, team silver, and uneven bars bronze at Tokyo 2020. She last competed in late February while a sophomore at Auburn University.
