After agreeing to draws in their separate matches, Samuel Sevian and Grandmaster Hans Niemann maintained their lead in the open division standings of U.S. Championship in St. Louis. In the women’s class, there were some unexpected results, notably the surprise triumph of 12-year-old Alice Lee over Gulrukhbegim Tokhirjonova.

2022 US Chess Championship Format, Rules, Schedule, Date, Time, Venue, And Other Details
Saint Louis Chess Club is the site of the U.S. Championship, an elite over-the-board national championship competition comprising 14 of the best chess players in the country. 13 rounds will be used to decide the winner, who will also receive $250,500 in cash and the coveted title of 2022 U.S. Champion. Prestigious 2022 U.S. Chess and U.S. Women’s Chess Championships kicked-off with public opening ceremony on 4th October and will culminate with closing ceremony on 9th October.
The US Chess Championship 2022 will have a 90-minute time limit for first 40 moves, followed by a 30-minute time limit for the remaining moves, with 30 seconds added for each additional move after that. There will be no draws in any of the Event’s regular-season or postseason contests.

2022 US Chess Championship Day 2 Results, Score, Winners, Standings, & Day 3 Schedule
The second day of 2022 U.S. Chess Championships featured a number of shocking results, including 15-year-old Christopher Yoo’s stunning victory over reigning champion GM Wesley So in an extremely aggressive match. Additionally in open division, Elshan Moradiabadi bounced back from his first round loss to claim victory against Awonder Liang. However, no other tournament favorite had a breakthrough in the remaining games, which were all pretty close throughout.
During his clash against Leinier Dominguez, Levon Aronian looked set to win but several blunders cost him the win as he settled for a draw. Elsewhere, Hans Niemann also missed his chance to win and had to settler for a draw against Jeffery Xiong. After two rounds of matches, reigning champion Wesley So surprisingly sits at bottom place with 0.5 points while 19-year-old Hans Niemann is leading the table with 1.5 points alongside Samuel Sevian.
Wesley So, the current champion, will play Xiong Jeffery in third round match of 2022 US Chess Championship, while Hans Niemann, the co-leader, will compete against Sam Shankland to retain his advantage. In another match, Levon Aronian will take on top-ranked Samuel Sevian and try to win his first match of the competition.
