2022 US Chess Championship Day 12 Results, Score, Winners, Standings, & Round 13 Schedule
In the penultimate round of ongoing US Chess Championships, open division leader Fabiano Caruana settled for a draw against Sam Shankland, which increased his score to 8/12. Going into final round, his closest rival Ray Robson is just 0.5 points behind at 7.5/12 and with both players playing with white pieces, title-race is bound to be a nail-biting one. Meanwhile in the women’s competition, top-two Jennifer Yu and Irina Krush faced-off in a crucial match with title on the line. Following her statement win, Irina Krush now has a half-point advantage over Jennifer Yu and Thalia Cervantes, who just won her fifth game in a row.
Caruana and Robson will square off against Levon Aronian and Jeffery Xiong in the 13th round, respectively, with the main title contenders separated by just half a point. It will surely be a blockbuster event, and Robson will undoubtedly play to win and try to unseat Caruana as champion. The fact that GMs Awonder Liang and Leinier Dominguez are only one point out of first place and have a remote possibility of winning the competition adds to intrigue. 2022 US Chess Championship Prize Money
In 2022, there will be a total prize pool of $262,000 for the open division of the US Chess Championships, and $160,500 for the women’s division. According to the release, the winner of the women’s section will receive $40,000 in prize money, while the winner of the open competition will take home $60,000 in cash.
