Reaffirming their commitment to the digital movement, the government revealed that an AVGC task force would be set up for gaming and animation in the Union Budget for 2022
When you have five state elections impending, its very easy to go the conventional way and announce a raft of populist measures and schemes in the Union Budget for the year. However, the PM Narendra Modi led BJP government decided to opt for a more development orientated approach, one which outlined a 25 year roadmap for the country going ahead.
Union Budget 2022 Live Highlights: Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming And Comics (AVGC) Task Force Set Up
Doing away with the antics of announcing people friendly announcements in a bid to entice voters, the Finance Minister unveiled a raft of upcoming programs with sports being regarded as one of the pivotal sectors moving forward. While the sports sector didn’t find a mention in FM Nirmala Sitharaman’s 1 hour and 30 minute long speech, the fraternity has been accorded its highest ever allocation till date with it getting Rs.3,062 crore, a Rs.300 crore increase from last year.
Gaming found a mention in the FM’s speech as well with the government for the first time setting up an Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming And Comics (AVGC) task force
Stressing upon the potential that Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comic (AVGC) offers to employ youth, Sitharaman said, “An AVGC promotion task force, with all stakeholders, will be setup to recommend ways to realise this and build domestic capacity for serving out markets and the global demand.”
The government has already announced the setting up a national Centre for Excellence for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics to create a talent pool in collaboration with IIT, Mumbai.
The National Youth Empowerment Program has been given Rs.138 crore this time as opposed to Rs.108 crore last year while the Khelo India Youth Games were handed over Rs.974 crore.
