On January 18, 2021, he made his Twenty20 debut for Jammu & Kashmir in the 2020–21 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In the 2020–21 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he made his List A debut on February 27, 2021, for Jammu & Kashmir. The Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2021 Indian Premier League named Malik as a short-term COVID-19 substitute for T. Natarajan in September 2021.

He was chosen as one of three net bowlers for the 2021 Indian Premier League in April 2021. (IPL). He made his IPL debut against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 49th match of the 2021 Indian Premier League on 3 October 2021.

Umran made headlines after he bowled five balls in a row at more over 150 kmph during a match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Further, he was nominated a net bowler for India’s team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2021 as a consequence of his fast bowling. On November 23, 2021, he made his first-class debut for India A against South Africa A.

Sunrisers Hyderabad picked him up in the IPL 2022 auction at a price of Rs.4 crore. Aged 29, he has a height of 5 feet and 9 inches and playing against Lucknow Super Giants in Mumbai Malik clocked a speed of 152.4 kph (94.7mph).

Sunrisers Although Hyderabad lost their match against the Lucknow Super Giants, fast bowler Umran Malik once again set the internet on fire by bowling a 152.95 km/h delivery. This was a much faster ball than the one he bowled in his previous outing, outpacing Lockie Ferguson of New Zealand.

Malik did not take any wickets, but his fastest delivery earned him a cash prize of Rs.One lakh after the match. He won the Swiggy Instamart Fastest Delivery Of The Match award for the second time in a row.
