UFC Vegas 66 Full Fight Card Winner And Results
Since the former title contender was continually trying to deliver heavy blows, the difference in the bout ultimately came down to Cannonier’s power versus Strickland’s volume. Throughout the five rounds of the fight, Strickland consistently struck a powerful jab, but he was unable to match Cannonier’s ability to throw enormous hooks or overhand punches that certainly gave him the edge. After the fight wasn’t finished even after five rounds, Derek Cleary & Junichiro Kamijo scored the bout 49-46 in favor of Cannonier, while Sal D’Amato voted 49-46 in favor of Strickland. Nevertheless, that was sufficient for Cannonier to be chosen as he ends the year with a victory to recover from his defeat against Israel Adesanya in July.
Cannonier let loose in the last round knowing the fight had been close through the previous four, and he eventually broke Strickland with some well-timed overhand punches that offset the continuous jabs coming back at him. By the time the bell rang, Strickland had sustained fatigue from the damage sustained throughout the fight, and it may have been the difference that gave Cannonier the victory. Following this win, Cannonier remains top-ranked middleweight and will be hoping to get title opportunity in near future.
