UFC on ESPN 42: Full Fight Card Winner & Results
With two explosive strikers in the cage, Holland and Thompson didn’t have to worry about defending takedowns, which let them to use every tool in their arsenal when fighting on their feet. As Holland continued to deflect Thompson’s strongest blows before retaliating with great force in his fists, he showed off an unbelievable amount of chin. Thompson was knocked back by Holland’s vicious right hand as the welterweights continued throwing punches.
Immediately after recovering from the punch, Thompson found his rhythm and started throwing head kicks in addition to his boxing combinations. Thompson then began aiming for Holland’s middle as he fired multiple shots to the ribs as the fight’s momentum shifted sharply in his favor. Holland was leaning against the cage, obviously injured from the body shots, and only attempting to prevent additional injury.
After doing so, Thompson turned his attention to Holland’s head and started kicking him repeatedly with spin kicks, but Holland resisted being knocked out. However, it was clear that he was taking damage, and he was also battling with a right hand injury. At this point, the battle was stopped by Holland’s coaches who decided that Holland couldn’t continue any longer.

As each of the seven fights on the thrilling main card of UFC Fight Night: Thompson vs. Holland ended in a decision, the event did not fall short of expectations. The highly coveted ‘Fight of the Night’ award was won by the main-event fight between Stephen Thompson and Kevin Holland. Owing to their their tenacious display, both fighters received an additional $50,000.
