Michel Platini resigned from UEFA in 2016 after being expelled for ethics violations and losing his appeal to reverse the expulsion, and Ceferin replaced him.
In April 2021, some of Europe’s top clubs sought to start a breakaway European Super League, posing a serious threat to the established order of European club football and presenting UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin with a major task.
