Unfair decisions from the referee were the main cause for Denmark losing out of a place in the finals of the EURO 2020 with laser being shone at Kasper Schmeichel going unnoticed

Denmark played exceptionally well in the semi-final against England at Wembly and were keeping the English side at bay at their home stadium and in front of the hostile English supporters. The match was decided in extra time when Raheem Sterling dived in the penalty box which everyone considered was a very soft penalty to give in the later stages of the match.

Raheem Sterling Dives To Win Contentious Winning Penalty

There was a lot of controversy surrounding England’s winning goal which was a penalty converted by Harry Kane. The hostile English crowd played a big part by flashing laser in the eyes of Kasper Schmeichel who saved the first effort but could not get up on time for the rebound.

In the build-up to that penalty, there was another ball on the pitch just meters ahead of Sterling which interfered with the play but the game continued as the referee decided not to stop the game. This decision also took a lot of hits from the fans as that moment proved to be the decider of the match.

The referee robs Denmark of a final place

Every football fan saw how Sterling dived in the box and was awarded a soft penalty where it should have been a free-kick to Denmark and a yellow card for Raheem Sterling for simulation. One wrong decision from the referee meant Denmark were out of the EURO 2020 in which they worked so hard.

While the referee decided to turn a blind eye to Kasper Schmeichel getting a laser pointer shone at his face during the showdown, UEFA have not taken kindly to the antics. The governing council has opened proceedings against the English supporter and England for indulging in the vilified act during Harry Kane’s penalty.

England fans were very confident ahead of this game but their confidence was shattered early by a wonderful free-kick from M. Damsgaard as Pickford was diving across the goal to get anything on it but it went right through.

Denmark’s lead lasted only 9 minutes as Saka’s ball into the box was put in by the Danish captain S. Kjær as Sterling was lurking behind him. Own goal was heavy on the Danish captain who had a wonderful game at Wembley.

England were not able to get past Kasper Schmeichel who was having a wonderful game in front of the hostile Wembley crowd. His nerves were of steel and looked very confident as he pulled off some of the magnificent saves of the tournament to keep the match level.

The game went into extra time and England were awarded a very soft penalty which Harry Kane initially missed but converted in a rebound giving England the lead. Gareth Southgate was pissed with his players who were not able to dominate the game and were finding it very difficult to get a firm grip on the match.

England will face Italy on July 12 at the Wembley stadium in the final of the EURO 2020.
