After disbanding the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1999, UEFA embarked on a decade-long campaign to introduce another European competition to the regular calendar. The Champions League and Europa League have established themselves as the top two competitions in the area.
Unlike the other competitions, the UECL does not allow direct entry into its group stages through the domestic league and cup results.

UEFA Conference League Final: Roma defeated Feyenoord to win the first Europa Conference League
Nicolo Zaniolo scored the game’s sole goal, neatly chipping over the keeper. Former Manchester United defender Chris Smalling was brilliant in defence for the Italians. It is the club’s first European title since the 1961 Fairs Cup. Jose Mourinho is the first manager to have won all three UEFA European Cups.
These days, Jose Mourinho appears to be sick of hearing about the Special One. But what better way to characterise a manager who has won the inaugural ‘Cup of Jokes’? That’s how Roma’s players felt about the Europa League a year ago. By Wednesday night, though, none of their followers in Tirana saw this as a minor, if not minor, competition. Not with European glory eluding them since the Fairs Cup in 1961.
That dry run has ended thanks to Nicolo Zaniolo’s goal against Feyenoord. Mourinho is the only manager in UEFA history to have won all three of the organization’s European competitions. His record in the big continental finals is also unblemished.
