Football season is back again and one nation will be declared the European champion at the month-long Euro 2024 in Germany.ย
Since West Germany hosted the competition’s 1988 edition, and Munich hosted four games of the multi-national Euro 2020, this is the third time European Championship matches have taken place on German soil and the second time in a reunified Germany.ย

The host played Scotland in the opener on July 15th with the Germans winning 5-1 at Allianz Arena. The ongoing competition is the 17th edition of the tournament.ย
Of the 24 teams participating in the competition, only Georgia is making their first-ever appearance in the European Championship finals.ย
Meanwhile, former Spanish captain Iker Casillas held the honor of being the first one to hold the trophy following its renovation in June 2008 as the trophy which was previously associated with the UEFA European Championship was duly replaced by the new one.ย

The trophy, which was named after Henri Delaunay, the first general secretary of UEFA and the president of the French Football Federation (FFF) from its founding on June 15, 1954, to November 9, 1955, is based on the original, which was created by the Arthus-Bertrand business in 1960.
Delaunay died in 1955, and the trophy that was commissioned for the tournament was named after him and it was his son, Pierre, who took over from his father as the UEFA general secretary, who worked with silversmith Chobillion to create the 43cm trophy.
Crafted from a blend of 92.5% silver and copper, the Euro Cup trophy exemplifies fine craftsmanship and elegance and its monetary value is estimated at approximately 15,500 euros.

Made of sterling silver, it is 2kg heavier and 18cm higher than the original, yet it nevertheless goes by the same historical name.ย
The trophy was recreated to better represent the scope and magnitude of the most important international competition in Europe.ย
One of the small differences between the updated and original models is the extended silver base, which increases stability.ย
The names of the winning nations that were etched on the plinth are also engraved on the reverse of the 80-cm-tall trophy.
The trophy now weighs 8kg and is made of sterling silver.
The winners of the European Championship are given a replica but the real trophy is retained by UEFA. Gold medals are given to the winners while the runners-up get silver medals.

European Championship 2024 prize moneyย
The 24 competing teams will divide the โฌ331 million prize money for Euro 2024 according to how well they perform during the competition.
This year’s squad prize money pool is 20 times more than UEFA’s for the women’s Euro 2022 and equal to that of the pandemic-affected Euro 2020.
Each of the 24 teams receives a minimum of 9.25 million euros for taking part in the month-long tournament and has a maximum prize pool of โฌ28.25 million.
