Two Pakistan boxers have gone missing in Birmingham after the Commonwealth Games 2022 (CWG)

The Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) confirmed the news on Wednesday, stating that the two boxers disappeared two hours before boarding the flight for Islamabad.

Amidst the unforeseen incident however, the travel documents of the two boxers are still with the officials. The 2022 Commonwealth Games concluded on Monday with most of the teams returning to their own countries.

PBF Secretary Nasir Tang confirmed the news about the two boxers, Suleman Baloch and Nazeerullah, who went missing a couple of hours before the contingent departed for Islamabad.

PBF takes swift action over the disappearance of the two boxers

Tang further stated that the federation has informed the Pakistan High Commission in the UK as well as other relevant authorities regarding the disappearance of the two boxers. In the meantime, the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) has formed a four-member committee to investigate the matter.

Tang said in the statement:

The travel documents including their passports are still with federation officials who accompanied the boxing team to the games.

Astonishing, But Not A New Case

Despite the astonishing nature of the case, it is not the first time Pakistani athletes have gone missing. About two months ago, Faizan Akbar, a national swimmer, also went missing while competing in the FINA World Championships in Hungary.

Akbar, however, didn’t even compete in the championships and went missing with his passport and other documents just hours after reaching Budapest. He hasn’t been traced since June.

Pakistan won eight medals at CWG22

As for Pakistan’s performance at the CWG22, the country managed to win eight medals in total. Two of the medals were gold medals that came in through javelin throw and weightlifting.

Arshad Nadeem won the gold medal in the men’s javelin throw event by breaching the 90-meter mark. Whereas, Nooh Dastagir Butt won the gold medal in the men’s 109kg+ weightlifting category.

I, Pakistan finished in the 18th position. Meanwhile, India finished in fourth place on the table after winning 61 medals, including 22 gold medals.
