BCCI To Confirm The Two New IPL Teams By Mid-October

According to InsideSport, Ahmedabad will surely be one of the front runners for a new IPL team. As for the second slot, multiple cities are likely to vie for that. The tenders will give the potential bidders eight to ten cities as options for the new teams. Some of the cities that will be in contention for the two slots include Ahmedabad, Pune, Lucknow, Kanpur, Guwahati, Indore, Kochi, Raipur and Trivandrum.

As for the base price and bidders, nothing is final yet, according to one of the senior Board officials stated. “IPL teams are a great investment and has given the initial investors great returns. My personal view is that it will be nothing less than 2000 Cr,” the official said.

IPL 2022 Player Retention Rules

With the introduction of two new teams next season, IPL 2022 will definitely have more matches and take place over a larger window. As for the player retention rules, each franchise can retain four players. The teams can either retain 3 Indian players and 1 overseas player or 2 domestic players and 2 foreign players.

The salaries of these 4 players will be deducted. Hence, they would most likely prefer to head to the auction pool. The mega auction was scheduled for 2021. But that could not happen with a jam-packed schedule in place over the course the pandemic. It has now been rescheduled to take place in 2022.
