What Is The Turkish Masters Open, Players And Format
The Turkish Masters is the 13th ranking event of the 2021–22 snooker season, organised by the World Snooker Tour. The snooker season 2021–22 is a professional snooker season that runs from July 2021 until June 2022.
The Nirvana Cosmopolitan Hotel in Antalya, Turkey, will host the event from March 7 to 13, 2022.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and wildfires in Turkey in 2021, the World Snooker Tour postponed the competition until March 2022.
The event’s qualification was held at the Morningside Arena in Leicester, England, from February 2 to 6, 2022.
The top four seeds and two wildcards had their matches held over to be contested at the main venue. All matches will be played over nine frames up to and including the Quarter-Finals, with the Semi-Finals being played over eleven frames and the final being played over nine frames.
In Turkey, the tournament is aired by the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation, whereas in Europe, it is carried by Eurosport.
Ronnie O’Sullivan, the world number two, withdrew to participate in the event since he was not provided with any further cash incentives.
Although he was dismayed by O’Sullivan’s decision, WPBSA chairman Jason Ferguson emphasised that the governing body had to maintain a fair playing field and would not pay players more money to compete in events.
Neil Robertson, the world number four, and Mark Selby, the incumbent world champion, both withdrew for personal reasons. As a result, three of the top four players in the world rankings were unable to compete.
