By the end of February, once the snow has melted, gardeners begin loosening the soil and removing unwanted grass, while sprays are applied as the flowers start to grow. The garden operates on an annual budget of approximately ₹3 crore, with nearly three-fourths of the funds allocated to purchasing fresh tulip bulbs from the Netherlands.
Typically, the blooming period begins in late March, with each tulip flower lasting around 20 days, potentially extending to 25 with the inclusion of mid- and late-blooming varieties. The flowers require temperatures to remain between 15°C and 25°C to thrive. In August 2023, the garden was recognized by the World Book of Records (London) as the largest tulip garden in Asia.
The sprawling garden is divided into over 30-36 plots, with each plot containing 16-18 beds of tulips. Over the years, it has played a crucial role in boosting tourism in Kashmir. In 2024, the garden recorded its highest-ever footfall of over 4.65 lakh visitors, an increase from 3.7 lakh in 2023, 3.6 lakh in 2022, and 2.3 lakh in 2021. Expressing optimism for this year, Yatoo remarked that visitor numbers were expected to surpass previous records.
