The video sparked an online memefest on X
There has been a surge of graphic videos on X lately, and it seems like they are simply there to create viral news situations. One such disturbing video, which online users dubbed the “Knife video,” appeared lately and featured a woman cutting herself crudely with a knife.
An apparent warning to viewers of the Knife Video content was posted in a video by one of the users. He also advised internet users not to watch multiple inappropriate videos in one clip, like ones that feature frogs and horses.
Another perceptive user responded by pointing out that the aforementioned netizen was merely attempting to arouse people’s morbid curiosity by emphasizing that they should avoid the content in an obvious attempt to provoke the opposite response.
Recently, X has been overflowing with disturbing content
According to an NBC investigation, there may be a problem with X’s moderating concerns, as there has been a recent increase in upsetting content online. The study claimed that the appearance of unsettling graphic content on the site has dramatically grown under Elon Musk’s administration. Musk is a supporter of unrestricted free expression on the platform.
It was severely forbidden to post graphic information on the social media network before Musk’s takeover. This included videos showing gun violence, zoophilia, and physical altercations. X has backed off on moderation under Musk. These days, the platform depends on views from graphic material to drive user engagement. The impact of a string of Zoophilia films that surfaced on the platform last month was similar in that it scared gullible internet users.
Even though people expressed their disgust online, others continued to explore it despite their collective disdain. There is a high level of curiosity for negative content on social media platforms because they are overflowing with massively engaging and attention-detracting content.
According to a recent Scientific American article, disgust successfully draws in and holds your attention despite being essentially an emotion that promotes avoidance. People will still be forced to watch the videos unless X chooses to control the material.
