Tour de France 2023 route

The race route for the Tour de France 2023 will be 3,404 kilometres (2,115 miles) long. The race started off with three challenging stages in the Basque Country region of northern Spain. Following which the competitors will face the first mountain day on Stage 5.

Cyclists will then head to the Col du Tourmalet on Stage 6, and then to Puy de Dôme on Stage 9. From there they will then climb the Grand Colombier, Col de Joux Plane, and Col de la Loze before reaching the Vosges mountains near the German border.

This year, the Tour de France’s peloton will consist of 22 teams, which features 18 UCI World Teams that received automatic invitations. The other four UCI ProTeams make up the rest of the teams. The entire list can be found here.

Tour de France 2023 start date and schedule

The 2023 Tour de France will begin on Saturday, July 1 in Bilbao, Spain. After three weeks of intense cycling an action, the race will finally conclude on Sunday, July 23 in Paris. There will be two rest days on July 10 (between stages 9 and 10) and on July 17 (between stages 15 and 16). The cyclists are set to finish one stage each day.

The upcoming Tour de France 2023 will feature 21 stages, including 1 individual time trial and 6 flat, 6 hilly, and 8 mountainous ones. The time trial racing is just 14 miles of the route, and it will be the first time that the Tour features only one individual time trial. Every edition of the race since 2015 has featured two time trial stages.

The total prize fund for the 2023 Tour de France sits at €2,308,200 (around $2.5m/£1.9m) in 2023.
