Owing to the stringent COVID-19 protocols in place in a slew of countries at the moment, Premier League sides had unanimously decided to refrain their players from departing to red zone countries. With players returning from these countries required to quarantine owing to the norms of the UK government, clubs had decided to was prudent if their players stayed back with them.

However, Giovani Lo Celso, Cristian Romero, Emi Buendia and Emiliano Martinez all ended up in Brazil with the quartet lying to make its way into the country. All four who were called up by Brazil for the Brazil vs Argentina showdown decided to lie their way into Brazil in a bid to defy the country’s order of self-isolating if you were arriving from the UK.
It lead to unprecedented visuals with officials of Brazil’s health department, Anvisa, storming the venue prior to the match getting underway to detain the four Premier League players.
