Odisha’s golden grass craft will be shown at the theme pavilion. Many riverfront settlements in Jagatasinghpur and Kendrapada districts have wild grass (Vetiver zizanoids), which is colloquially called ‘Kaincha.’
Weaving is done using an inflorescent stick, which arises after the monsoon. Golden grass bowls, fans, and mats have been utilised as utilitarian items in various sections of the state for decades. The beauty of eco-friendly and biodegradable items is being discovered by an increasing number of city inhabitants.
This year, high-profile cultural events have been cancelled to avoid an overabundance of people. On tiny stages inside the Mela ground, however, modest traditional cultural events like ‘dhuduki,’ ‘kendera,’ ‘dasakathia,’ ‘pala,’ ‘kirtan,’ and local folk dances will be presented.
Toshali National Crafts Mela 2022 Schedule, Dates, Timing, Location, Stalls
On Monday, the much-anticipated 16th Toshali National Crafts Mela 2022 will be out in Bhubaneswar’s Janata Maidan. This year’s fair will include 390 artists and weavers, including 150 from the state. It will be inaugurated by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The 16th edition of Toshali National Crafts Mela 2022 will be kicked off on Monday 28 March 2022 from 6:30pm to 9:00pm IST due to the heat.
The Toshali Mela will be conducted twice this year. In December of this year, the 17th Toshali Mela will be held.
Where Will It Be Held
Every year, the Toshali National Crafts Mela is held in Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar, which serves as the country’s cultural nerve centre. The Crafts Mela has already established itself as a distinct event in the country’s annual Carnival calendar.
Who Organises The Toshali National Crafts Mela 2022?
The Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts Department, in collaboration with the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is hosting the Mela.
This huge National level Crafts Mela is being organised by the State Institute for Development of Arts & Crafts (SIDAC), Gandamunda, Bhubaneswar, an independent institution under the Handlooms, Textiles & Handicrafts Department, Government of Odisha.
The HT&H Department has set out Rs. 2.60 crores for the organisation of this huge event.
On the Mela grounds, a dedicated air-conditioned restroom will be built specifically for the exhibitors. In the Mela ground, special provisions will be made for abundant cool drinking water for visitors and exhibitors.
The fire department, security, first-aid service, ambulance, ATM counters, free housing for artisans, Wheel Chair for Senior Citizens, and other relevant logistics will be accessible on the Mela grounds.
How Many People Are Expected To Come To This Event?
Last year, the Mela attracted 14 lakh visitors and generated Rs 12.38 crore in revenue. This year’s Mela is projected to attract roughly 15 lakh visitors, with merchandise worth around Rs.15.00 crore being sold.
