Chahal broke the record during the second ball surpassing the former CSK pacer Dwayne Bravo’s record in the process with him now eyeing the purple cap in IPL 2023.

Yuzvendra Chahal becomes all-time leading wicket-taker in IPL history
Yuzvendra Chahal broke the record while playing against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the ongoing IPL 2023. Chahal took out a dangerous-looking partnership between Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer. He took out the KKR captain, with the help of Shimron Hetmyer who caught the ball at deep square leg.
Following the match, Yuzvendra Chahal satted:
On this ground, I didn’t want to give easy boundaries. Wanted to keep the ball away from the batters. The pitch was slow and aiding me. (On becoming leading IPL wicket taker) I never thought when I came into the IPL with MI that I’ll get here. I’m here because of all the support I’ve got along the way with family and friends. Prior to the match, Chahal was equal with Bravo’s tally of 183 Indian Premier League wickets He then went past the record by taking 187 wickets in 143 Indian Premier League matches. Bravo now stands at second with 183 wickets in 161 matches.
Behind the top two are veteran Indian leg-spinner pair, Piyush Chawla, and Amit Mishra. While Chawla has 174 wickets in 176 matches, Mishra has 172 wickets in 160 matches. Senior RR off-spinner R Ashwin ranks fifth with 171 wickets from 196 matches.
