Top 10 Mixed Doubles Badminton Players In The World

In badminton, the mixed doubles events are played by players who have specialization in the doubles discipline. Let’s check the current top 10 mixed doubles badminton players

Many players play in either men’s or women’s doubles and at the same time play in the mixed doubles event in numerous tournaments. The following list is according to the last BWF World Rankings released on 29 June 2021.

Top 10 mixed doubles badminton players in the world

1. Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong (China)

Claiming the top spot in the mixed doubles rankings is the Chinese pair of Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong, they have a career record of 146 wins and 15 losses. Their partnership was formed in November 2017.

They have won numerous tournaments; they are two-time world champions in 2018 & 2019 respectively, gold medalists at the 2018 Asian Games, then champions at the prestigious 2019 All England Open, and also have won the 2019 BWF World Tour Finals. Since then, the duo became the world No. 1 on 9 August 2018, since then has secured their place at the top of the rankings.

Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong have won 15 BWF World Tour titles, 2 BWF Superseries titles, and 1 BWF Grand Prix title.

2. Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsiree Taerattanachai (Thailand)

The Thai pair has a career record of 176 wins, 69 losses. Some of their achievements include claiming the silver medal at the 2019 BWF World Championships.

They were victorious at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games as they won the final. At 2020 All England Open, they finished the tournament as runners-up, losing the final with the score 15–21, 21–17, 8–21.

They had a great year so far as they won all three Asian Leg titles played in Thailand; the tournaments were – both the Yonex and Toyota Thailand Opens and the 2020 BWF World Tour Finals. This triumph led them to climb to world No. 2 in the rankings, their personal best. Throughout their career, they have won 6 World Tour titles and 1 Grand Prix title.

3. Wang Yilyu/Huang Dongping (China)

The current 3rd ranked pair has a career record of 151 wins, 39 losses. A few of their achievements are being the silver medalists at the 2018 BWF World Championships, losing the final 17–21, 19–21. They are two-time Asian Champions winning it in 2018 and 2019.

The pair won the 2018 BWF World Tour Finals by defeating their compatriots Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong in the final. They couldn’t defend this title as they were runners-up at the 2019 BWF World Tour Finals, where they faced the same opponents as they did in 2018 who this time got the better of them.

Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping have won 6 World Tour titles, 1 Superseries title, and 1 Grand Prix title to see that they are in the list of top 10 mixed doubles badminton players.

4. Praveen Jordan/Melati Daeva Oktavianti (Indonesia)

The 4th ranked Indonesian pair has a career record of 78 wins, 45 losses. They claimed the gold medal at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

At the 2020 All England Open, they were the champions, winning the prestigious tournament for the first time as a pair. They defeated the Thai pair with the score 21–15, 17–21, 21–8 in the final, with this they won their 1st ever title at the Super 1000 level of the BWF World Tours.

Till now, Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva Oktavianti have won 3 World Tour titles.

5. Yuta Watanabe/Arisa Higashino (Japan)

Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino, currently ranked 5th in the rankings, have a career record of 119 wins, 60 losses. They won a bronze medal at the 2019 BWF World Championships.

The pair has an amazing record at the prestigious All England Open tournament, where they have won twice out of the three appearances in the final. They were Champions for the first time in 2018 but couldn’t defend the title in 2019 as they were runners-up. They won the title for the 2nd time in 2021. The duo has won 5 World Tour titles and 1 International Challenge/Series title.

6. Seo Seung-jae/Chae Yoo-jung (South Korea)

The South Korean pair, who are currently ranked 6th in the world, have a career record of 73 wins, 31 losses. They had claimed their first-ever BWF Tour title by winning the Super 300 Australian Open in 2018.

At the 2020 BWF World Tour Finals, they were runners-up at the tournament. They lost the final to Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai with the score 18–21, 21–8, 8–21. Till now, they have won 3 World Tour titles.

7. Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying (Malaysia)

Ranked 7th in the world, the Malaysian pair of Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying has a career record of 300 wins, 167 losses. They had reached their career-high ranking of world No. 3 in 2012.

Their major achievements are being the silver medalist at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the mixed doubles event; they lost the final to the Indonesian pair of Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir. The pair won the gold medal at the 2010 Asian Championships. They won a bronze medal in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. At 2017 All England Open, they were runners-up, losing the final to Lu Kai and Huang Yaqiong in 3 games.

Together they have won 4 World Tour titles, 1 Superseries title, 5 Grand Prix titles, and 1 International Challenge/Series title.

8. Marcus Ellis/Lauren Smith (England)

The English pair are currently ranked 8th in the world and have a career record of 129 wins, 55 losses. Some of their achievements are winning the silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

At the 2019 European Games, the pair won a gold medal after beating their compatriots, the top-seeded Chris Adcock and Gabrielle Adcock in straight games with the score 21–14, 21–9.

The pair then reached the final of the 2021 European Championships in Kyiv, Ukraine, improving their record of a bronze medal from the previous edition of the European Championships where they had lost in the semifinal. In Kyiv, the pair despite being the top seeds; suffered a great upset in the final when the sixth-seeded Russian pair of Rodion Alimov and Alina Davletova beat them in 3 games with the score of 21–11, 16–21, 15–21 and they had to settle with a silver medal.

9. Hafiz Faizal/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja (Indonesia)

The 9th ranked pair has a career record of 83 wins, 57 losses. They formed their partnership in 2017, ending the season by reaching the semifinals in Bitburger Open and Korea Masters. The pair was unseeded in both the tournaments and on their way to the semifinals they defeated top-seeded players.

The duo from Indonesia won their 1st BWF title at the Super 500 Thailand Open in 2018 where they defeated the top seeds Chris Adcock and Gabrielle Adcock of England in straight games with the score 21–12, 21–12 in the final.

On two occasions they have finished as the runners-up; at 2019 German Open and the 2020 Thailand Masters. Hafiz Faizal and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja have won 1 World Tour title.

10. Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue (France)

The young pair from France is ranked 10th in the world and has a career record of 105 wins, 60 losses. At the 2019 European Games, they had to settle with a bronze medal after losing the semifinal match to the eventual gold medalists Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith from Great Britain.

Together they have won 2 World Tour titles and 3 International Challenge/Series titles.
