Tommy Fury vs Rolly Lambert Match Events & How it Unfolded?
On the undercard of Floyd Mayweather vs. Deji, Tommy Fury was jeered as he labured against late replacement opponent Rolly Lambert. The fight between Fury and Paul Bamba was cancelled after it was discovered that the Love Island runner-up was seven pounds overweight than his opponent. Bamba declined the fight, thus Fury was put up against Lambert, who had triumphed in 15 of his previous 17 contests, as a replacement. Additionally, the battle was changed from a professional contest to an exhibition fight, so neither a winner nor a result was noted. And as they sailed through the six two-minute rounds, neither boxer seemed particularly interested in making an impression.
Fury attempted to use his jab in the early going, but there wasn’t much time for either fighter to exert much of an influence due to the two-minute rounds. During a dull first session, Lambert was able to land his own jab, but Fury increased the tempo when the second round began, despite his blows’ lack of force. Indeed, Lambert seemed content to showboat, flailing his right arm without ever firing a shot, while Fury appeared to be withdrawing his blows in line with the performance style of the bout. And as the bout was halfway through, Fury was more focused on yelling at Jake Paul at the ringside than actually throwing punches.
