Brady’s current contract with the Bucs, which earns him around $15,00,000 annually will conclude at the end of the season.
A thrashing from the Dallas Cowboys
The 45-year-old looked his age on Monday night as the Dallas Cowboys thrashed his Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-14 at home. While Brady totaled 351 yards and threw for two scores during the game, it took him a whopping 66 attempts. Moreover, most of his contributions came after the game was already decided.
The Bucs were down 6-0 when the second quarter started, and were facing second and-goal at the Dallas 5-yard line. To add to their horror, Brady threw an horrible interception in the end zone. As the Cowboys drove down the field, they scored another touchdown, which decided the game.
Brady had 86 TDs and zero picks on interceptions before the match began. The loss against Dallas is just Brady’s third loss in the opening round of the postseason in his 23-year career.
Is Brady done with the Buccaneers?
A lot of speculations have been going around on whether Brady is finally done with the Buccaneers. Following the game against Dallas, Brady told the media:
I love this organization. It’s a great place to be. Thank you everybody for welcoming me. Just very grateful for the respect and I hope I gave it back to you guys.
He further added that he’ll “take it one day at a time, truly.”
Moreover, several of his teammates took turns in thanking Brady in the locker room.
ESPN’s Joe Buck shared on Monday’s post-game show that “people inside the league believe” Brady will return for a 24th season in 2023. Irrespective of his decision, Brady has a options even if he chooses retirement. The NFL legend reportedly has a 10-year, $375 million deal with Fox Sports. The deal will see him become the network’s lead analyst on NFL broadcasts.
Potential moves
The Raiders have the highest potential of signing Brady after nearly luring him when he first left New England. Josh McDaniels, who is Brady’s former long-time offensive coordinator with the Patriots currently coaches the Raiders.
Moreover, reports indicate that the Raiders are set to move on from their 2022 starting QB Derek Carr and pursue Brady. A move to Las Vegas will also help raise Brady’s and marketability.
Another potential move could be with the New York Jets who arguably have a championship-caliber roster but need a quarterback. It would be a fairytale move if Brady joins and helps win their first Super Bowl since Joe Namath.
Yet another potential move could be with the 49ers as Brady himself is from the San Francisco area. However, the 49ers break currently have who could well be the next Brady in seventh-round rookie Brock Purdy.
Tennessee could also make a move for Brady as they look to move on from Ryan Tannehill this offseason. Moreover, the current Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, was Brady’s teammate back in New England from 2001-2008.
The Miami Dolphins are also another team that could pursue Brady after their owner Stephen Ross previously pursued him and even went against NFL tampering rules. One reason why the Dolphins might try again is due to Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion problems.
