Pooja Rani beat Algeria’s Ichrak Chaib by a unanimous 5-0 decision, making her way into the quarterfinals of the women’s 75kg middleweight quarterfinals. The 30-year-old boxer from Bhiwani, Haryana, is in amazing form this year, having won the Asian Boxing Championship gold in May and a silver over world champion Atheyna Bylon in March at the Boxam International Tournament. The 30-year-old Olympics debutant Indian boxer will be facing China’s Li Qian in the Women’s Middleweight Champion this Saturday on 31st July, 2021 (3.36pm IST). The Chinese boxer made her way into the quarterfinals after defeating Ireland’s Aoife O’Rourke 5-0. Li won the bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Her record with Rani is one of 2-0, having beaten her in the semifinals of the 2014 Asian Games and the 2020 Asian Olympic qualifiers in Jordan.
