Assamese boxer Lovlina Borgohain defeated Germany’s Apetz 3-2 to reach the boxing quarter-final match of the women’s welterweight category in the Tokyo Olympics 2021
The first woman boxer from Assam, India, Lovlina Borgohain displayed a commanding performance against Germany’s veteran pugilist Nadine Apetz at the Kokugikan Arena, during the 2021 Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday. Following a split decision win, the Indian boxer from Assam has now moved into the quarter-final of the Women’s Welterweight division (64 to 69kg). The 23-year-old Indian boxer will be facing Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien-Chin in the Women’s Welterweight Quarterfinal on Saturday, 30th July (8.48am IST). A former world champion, Chen made her way into the quarterfinals after defeating Italy’s Angela Carini 3-2. She went head-to-head with Lovlina previously at the 2018 World Championships in the semifinals of the tournament. The match was won by Chen
Prediction: Having already faced Chen in a match and lost to her, fear is less likely to overwhelm Lovlina this time. She will hopefully advance into the quarterfinal with a calm and cautious demeanor and bring the bronze medal home.
