Pablo Carreno Busta achieves the biggest win of his professional career at the Tokyo Olympics, know about his net worth, career, life and ranking
Pablo Carreno Busta followed some of the underdog’s footsteps, beating Daniil Medvedev in the quarter-finals of the Tokyo Olympics. Pablo Carreno Busta’s margin of victory hardly seemed like he played the world number two as Medvedev slumped in straight sets. Busta’s win over the Russain arguably adds to the list of shocking wins this year.
Pablo Carreno Busta Life, Parents, Family, Net Worth And Ranking
Pablo Carreno Busta was born in Gijon, a municipality in Spain, to parents Alfonso and Maria Antonia and has two sisters, named Lucia and Alicia. The 30-year old resides in Barcelona and has an estimated net worth is $6 million. The Spanish seems to have a thing for cars and is a former number ten player in the ATP rankings.
Pablo Carreno Busta’s early career
Pablo Carreno Busta’s maiden appearance at the ATP tour was in the 2011 Barcelona Open, losing in the first round to Benoit Paire. The 30-year old won a couple of challenger titles in 2011 and spent most of 2012 on the sidelines due to injury.
Carreno Busta entered the qualifying round of the Grand Prix Hassan II in 2013, losing after winning his three qualifying games. But the Spanish produced an improved show in the 2013 Portugal Open. Later, Stan Wawrinka ended his run at the semi-final.
Unfortunately, he could not get past the first round of the French Open that year after winning all his qualifying games. After three years in 2016, Carreno Busta clinched his first ATP title at the Winston-Salem Open, beating Roberto Bautista Agut.
Carreno Busta’s strong grand slam results and rising through the ranks
Carreno Busta began raising his bar, reaching the third round of 2017 Australian Open and the semi-finals of the doubles division with Guillermo Garica Lopez. But he snared the doubles title in Rio Open after losing his first ATP 500 final of the same competition to Casper Ruud.
At the French Open, he reached the quarter-final and played against the Clay King, Rafael Nadal. But the Spanish had to retire at 0-2 down due to injury. Carreno Busta elevated himself further by making it to the US Open semi-final, where he lost to Kevin Anderson. The Spanish followed his dull 2018 by making a good comeback in 2019.
He won his fourth ATP title in 2019 in Chengdu Open, beating Denis Shapavalov in the semi-final and Alexander Bublik in the decider. Busta was also part of Spain’s team that lifted the Davis Cup that year.
2nd loss at the US Open semi-final, career progression, awards and achievements
After exiting in the third round of the Australian Open, the 30-year old reached the US Open semi-final yet again.
But Alexander Zverev eliminated him in the knockouts. The most striking thing about that tournament was when Busta advanced in his fourth-round clash against Novak Djokovic, who accidentally hit the ball to the line judge’s throat, leading him to be defaulted.
But the Serbian avenged his loss in the French Open, consigning his opposition to a defeat by four sets. The world number 11 has not achieved anything significant in the slams, but won his sixth ATP title in the ATP 500 Hamburg European Open.
Before that, Busta won the maiden edition of the Andalucia Open, marking his fifth. He defeated the top seed Jaume Munar in straight sets to achieve it. Leaving all things aside, few would debate whether Busta’s victory against Daniil Medvedev is his sweetest one.
Pablo Carreno Busta At The Tokyo Olympics
Medvedev might not have eked out many comeback wins; however, he digs in and lets the opponent work for their victories.
But the scoreline of 6-2 and 7-6(5) hardly suggests so. Can he fancy his chances against Karen Khachanov? His confidence would undoubtedly be high after beating Medvedev. However, after a long grind, Pablo Carreno Busta would stay grounded yet determined.
