Ironically, this year saw a surge in popularity for the social media challenge that was initially made famous in 2021. According to LAPD Chief Michel Moore, the pattern resulted in an 85% increase in auto theft in Los Angeles.
Over a third of car thefts in St. Petersburg, Florida, since mid-July have been attributed to the TikTok challenge, according to authorities. In Chicago, where Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart claims that the thefts of particular models are up over 800% in the previous month.
The stolen automobiles are being used “for joyrides, or used to commit other crimes and then abandoned on the side of the road,” which just makes the situation worse.

Most American consumers have already heard about the Kia automobiles that were stolen. But not just Kia owners felt victimized by this ridiculous trend. Teenagers also target Hyundai automobiles.
According to ABC7, the most recent TikTok craze, “Kia Boyz,” encourages teenagers to break into and steal Hyundai and Kia cars.
On the plus side, most cars sold between 2010 and 2021, rather than all Hyundai and Kia models, have a mechanical key which put this trend at disadvantage as most teenagers and young adults allegedly steal these autos using a USB cable.

For the community, the challenge of owning one of these vehicles, we’re asking that you purchase a steering wheel lock. You can also install an alarm system. The steering wheel lock will offer both a visual and physical deterrent from someone trying to break your glass and into your vehicle.
