Thomas Deane appeared in front of a judge for the first time on Thursday morning.
Deane was prohibited from contacting the victim or any juvenile. He won’t be able to use the internet or dating applications. Deane’s mother, who testified in his defence, was present at the court, as did the victim’s family and the case investigator.
Deane was accused of sexual or sexual assault as well as sexual or lascivious molestation. After his arrest, Canterbury School announced that he was no longer working there.
For each of his two offences, the bond was set at $100,000. Deane’s next appearance in court is set for May 9.

Why Was He Arrested?
According to Lee County Jail records, Thomas Deane was arrested and charged with sexual contact with a child on Wednesday morning.
He was arrested just before 11 a.m. on charges of lewd and lascivious behaviour on a victim under the age of 16 and a second charge of lewd and lascivious behaviour on a victim between the ages of 12 and 16, according to court records.
According to an arrest record, deputies began investigating 30-year-old Thomas in February when the mother of a kid in Bonita Springs reported her son as a victim of a sex offence.
Deane apparently met a lad on the dating app Grindr in December 2021. The youngster, who is under the age of 16 but over the age of 12, is not a Canterbury School student.
Deane and the youngster reportedly spoke over Snapchat and phone after meeting on Grindr. In the residence of the former Canterbury School teacher in Bonita Springs, they allegedly had multiple sexual encounters.
The boy’s mother filed a complaint with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on February 16, 2022, alleging that her son had been the victim of sex offences. Deane was detained at his residence in Bonita Springs on April 6, 2022. That’s why he was arrested.
