Ashmita Chaliha, ranked 53rd in the world, fiercely contested against the 11th-ranked Aya Ohori in the Uber Cup but ultimately succumbed to a 10-21, 22-20, 15-21 defeat. Later, the Japanese duo Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida dominated Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra, securing a 21-8, 21-9 victory to extend their lead. In the third tie, 20-year-old Isharani Baruah suffered a 15-21, 12-21 loss to former world No. 1 Nozomi Okuhara, who sealed Japan’s 3-0 victory.
Meanwhile, the Indian men’s Thomas Cup campaign ended with a 1-3 defeat against the hosts China. In the first game, HS Prannoy lost 21-15, 11-21, 14-21 after a one-hour-six-minute clash against Shi Yu Qi. Meanwhile, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty suffered a defeat by score of 15-21, 21-11, 12-21 against Chinese duo Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang.
Despite trailing 0-2, Lakshya Sen ignited hope for India with an impressive performance against world No. 4 Li Shi Feng, triumphing 13-21, 21-8, 21-14 in one hour and 10 minutes. However, buoyed by the home crowd’s support, He Ji Ting and Ren Xiang Ju, ranked 11th in the world, overpowered Dhruv Kapil and Sai Pratheek 21-10, 21-10 in the second doubles rubber, securing a 3-1 victory for China.
