The men’s and women’s national teams of the Badminton World Federation member associations will compete in the biennial international badminton competition known as the Thomas and Uber Cup 2024, which will be the 33rd edition of the Thomas Cup and the 30th edition of the Uber Cup.

The draw for the tournament which features 16 teams was revealed today in the People’s Republic of China, where hosts are placed in Group A in both the events.

India had won their first-ever Thomas Cup by defeating Indonesia 3-0 in the finals the previous year. The competition began in 1949. Meanwhile, Bronze medals from the 2014 and 2016 Uber Cups in New Delhi and Kunshan, respectively, are India’s best-ever results in the competition.

India was eliminated from the Uber Cup last year in the quarterfinals after losing 3-0 to Thailand. The women’s team from India qualified for the 2024 after taking home the first-ever gold medal at the Badminton Asia Team Championships in Malaysia earlier in the year.

Since they would be the defending champions going into the competition, the Indian men’s team has automatic qualification for the 2024 Thomas Cup. In 2022, India won the Thomas Cup in Bangkok, Thailand, making history as the nation’s first-ever world champions in the team competition.

When and where will the Thomas and Uber Cup 2024 be held?

Thomas and Uber Cup 2024 will be held from April 27 and will run until May 5 in Chengdu in China.
