Chinese Taipei, having secured their first-ever Thomas Cup medal with a surprising victory over Denmark on Friday, couldn’t replicate their success as Indonesia’s men secured a 3-0 win. Meanwhile, China emerged victorious against Malaysia by score of 3-1 to qualify for the Thomas Cup final.
In the first game of the Uber Cup semi-final tie featuring China vs Japan, Olympic champion Chen Yufei won against Aya Ohori 21-18, 21-15. Following that, Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan triumphed by score of 14-21, 21-13, 23-21 against Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida to extend China’s lead. Later, He Bingjiao secured the Uber Cup final spot for China by defeating Nozomi Okuhara 21-8, 21-18.
Meanwhile, Indonesia relied on their strong singles players to defeat defending champion South Korea 3-2 in the other semifinal of the Uber Cup 2024. On Sunday, Indonesia will face-off against the hosts China with the Uber Cup title at stake.
