How Did Thom Bell Pass Away?
Thom Bell has departed for the heavenly home. He is most recognised for being one of the pioneers of the Philadelphia soul in the 1970s. The gifted artist passed away at his home in Bellingham, Washington, at the age of 79. Reports claim that Thom Bell’s attorney, Michael Silver, broke the terrible news of his passing. The exact cause of Thom Bell’s passing remains unknown as of this writing.
Thom Bell- Early Life
On January 26, 1943, Thom Bell was born in Kingston, Jamaica. Thomas Randolph Bell was his whole name. He worked professionally as an American record producer, arranger, and composer. Thom’s family relocated to Philadelphia when he was a youngster.
His mother used to play the piano, while his father used to play the accordion and Hawaiian lap steel guitar. At the tender age of 4, he acquired his very first drum set and began studying the piano.
Thom initially met Kenny Gamble at his sister’s house, and shortly the two of them started working together in a group known as Kenny & the Romeos. Bell left the ensemble, and Leon Huff took over at the piano.
Thom Bell’s Carrer
Bell was a staff writer and tour conductor for Chubby Checker at the time, and in 1968 he landed his first producing position with the Delfonics. He contributed to the creation of songs by the band like “La La Means I Love You” and “Didn’t I Blow Your Mind.”
That signalled the start of something unique. He soon completed the string arrangements for “Back Stabbers,” the O’Jays’ 1976 blockbuster hit record on the Philadelphia International Records label. It was produced by Gamble & Huff.
Thom Bell Collaborated With Several Renowned Musicians.
Later on down the road, Thom collaborated with Fatboy Slim, Dusty Springfield, Dionne Warwick, Teddy Pendergrass, Lou Rawls, Little Anthony and The Imperials, David Byrne, and Joss Stone. Additionally, he worked with several notable musicians, including Johnny Mathis, Teddy Pendergrass, Deniece Williams, and Elton John.
Thom won a Grammy in 1975 for “Best Producer of the Year” in that category. He received a star on the Walk of Fame of the Philadelphia Music Alliance in 1993. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in June 2006.
Vanessa, Thom Bell’s wife, and his children, Royal, Troy, Tia, Mark, Cybell, and Christopher, are still alive. No memorial services have been scheduled as of yet. His net worth stood at $2 million.
