First round opponent Robert Milkins, the defending champion who defeated Shaun Murphy 9โ7 in the previous year’s final, takes on Welshman Jamie Jones.
On the opening day, home favourite Mark Williams, who last took home the trophy in 1999, will also be competing. But top player Ronnie O’Sullivan has pulled out because to “anxiety,” and top player Judd Trump has also withdrawn after winning the German Masters.
The 2024 Welsh Open will take place at the beach town of Llandudno for the second year in a row. The event was first staged in 1992 and had previously taken place mostly in Newport or Cardiff over its 33-year history.
Though there are now just 13 players from the country of the red dragon who are attempting to break that record, Mark Williams is the only Welshman to have won his home title.
When and where is the 2024 Welsh Open?
The Welsh Open will take place from Monday, February 12 to Sunday, February 18. For the second time ever, the competition will not take place in Cardiff or Newport; it will instead take place at Venue Cymru in Llandudno.
