“As in season 1, the series will be directed by Chiaki Kon, with series composition by Susumu Yamakawa and animation production by J.C. STAFF. The cast also includes Kenjiro Tsuda as Ryu, Shizuka Ito as Ryu’s wife, Miku, and Kazuyuki Okitsu as Ryu’s younger brother, Masashi. New characters will appear in Season 2, including Torajiro’s younger sister, Toraharu.”
Fans will be excited to hear the news of the return of the hit anime series. While the news comes as a surprise, fans will however, not be surprised to see the series’ return to the streaming giant thanks to the availability of source material and the show’s global popularity.
Reasons Why A Second Season Seemed Inevitable
There are several reason why as second season seemed inevitable. An exciting fact is that, the original manga that the anime adapts is still ongoing. The 10 complete Tankobon volumes have been published in Japan so far.
This means that there is plenty of source material left to potentially produce not just a second season, but also a third season if the series continues on its regular release schedule.
Another reason is the immensely popular and positive reviews it garnered around the world. The Way of the Househusband is currently scoring a respectable 7.52/10 (part 2) on MyAnimeList, 7.3/10 on IMDB and 83% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Lastly, the format of The Way of the Househusband also gave viewers a good reason to consider a second season. Each episode is split into smaller episodes/arcs, which means that production won’t be either particularly time-consuming (compared to typical anime seasons) or strenuous on the studio’s resources.
Despite the release confirmation, Netflix still hasn’t shared the total episode count, nor a specific release date for The Way of the Househusband season 2.
Where To Read The Original Manga Series
As previously noted, so far, 10 complete manga volumes of The Way of the Househusband have been published in Japan. However, only 8 of those volumes are currently available for reading in English.
Readers can purchase physical copies of the original manga through Amazon, Book Depository, Waterstones and Bookshop. Digital versions of the manga are also available via Google Play, iBooks, Amazon Kindle and Nook.
The Ingenuity Of The Househusband Adaptation
Besides the anime series, Netflix also launched the first season of the series’ live-action drama titled ‘The Ingenuity of the Househusband’ on August 29, 2021.
It consists of five, five-minute-long, episodes with popular Japanese actor Kenjirô Tsuda in the leading role. Netflix has branded “The Ingenuity of the Househusband” as a ‘Bonus Series’ to the franchise’s main anime series.
Netflix also shortly released Season 2 on October 7 alongside the return of the anime series.
Some fans may not know that it is actually the second live-action drama adaptation for the series, following the 2020 series ‘Gokushufudo‘.
Fans can expect more live-action series content to be produced alongside the anime series, heading into 2023.
