The Broaddus family was the center of a 2014 mystery surrounding a string of frightening and threatening letters written by an unknown person known as “The Watcher.”

The family paid approximately $1.3 million for a stunning 6 bedroom house in Westfield, New Jersey, back in June 2014. However, a few days later, they got their first anonymous message.

The spine-chilling letter delivered to the address indicated that the writer of the letter was familiar with many intimate facts about their life and the structure of their property.

The letters also warned them about their kids as it stated the couple “would never hear them cry” if they walked down to the basement.

In 2019, the home was sold for $959,000 by the Broaddus family following an unsuccessful lawsuit against the former owners.

Meanwhile, many people from the area have already moved away over the years, some were present as the tale was unfolding.

One of the nearby community members, Kimberly Sorrentino, who lived on The Boulevard for around 30 years claimed that, before the house was bought by Broaddus family, it was “a crazy house.”

Kimberly in a statement told The US Sun that, “It was a bachelor’s house before it was a private home.”

She further added, “I don’t think much of it, I don’t think it was anything scary. I would say the carjackings in this town are much more serious than The Watcher.”

Following Kimberly’s statement, another neighbor across the street also agreed while stating that she wasn’t concerned at the time.

However, she did mention that she was a member of th3 neighborhood along The Boulevard that voluntarily submitted to DNA testing as part of the inquiry into the enigmatic messages.

She recalled the incidents as, “Two detectives came … and I knew that I wasn’t part of anything, but it was weird.”

After the test, she didn’t receive further communication. She revealed in her statement that, nobody in the area seems to be worried, “and that says something.”

She further added, “I hope the movie’s good, but there’s so much more to talk about, it’s just not interesting to me.”

The announcement that the streaming giant is adapting ‘The Watcher,’ and was ready to premiere elicited a range of response from the local population.

According to a report by The US Sun, the woman’s daughter named Eve Crandall stated that she is preparing to hold a watching party for the new series with her friends.
