The US Open 2022 Golf Day 3 Results: Win in Sight for Fitzpatrick

Fitzpatrick, who had a tumultuous Sunday at the US PGA Championship last month, is now hungry for victory in 2022 US Open. The Yorkshireman, who won the amateur title at this prestigious site in 2013, will begin day four at US Open tied for first place. Fitzpatrick is currently sharing the lead with Will Zalatoris, who is four under par. Jon Rahm was five under par as he approached the 18th tee. Bunker trouble awaited, as did a double bogey. With a one-over-par 71, the defending champion is one stroke behind the leaders.

Zalatoris came even closer to winning the US PGA than Fitzpatrick, losing in a playoff to Justin Thomas at Southern Hills. The third day’s best performance came from Zalatoris, who finished the day with a score of 67. Surprisingly, despite five top-10 results in seven major appearances, the 25-year-old has yet to win a major tour event.

Rory McIlroy’s 73 put him three shots behind the leader and still in contention. Scottie Scheffler highlighted the crazy character of the US Open by holeing out for an eagle on the 8th, giving him a two-shot lead at six under. The world No. 1 was down one by the 15th tee. After a 71, Scheffler finished at two under par. Keegan Bradley and Adam Hadwin have the same score.

The US Open 2022 Golf Prize Money Purse

When USGA CEO Mike Whan announced a large boost to the purse for the 2022 U.S. Open on Wednesday, he had a lot of talking to do. The U.S. Open golf competition will now pay out $17.5 million to those who make the weekend cut, up $5 million from last year. That’s the biggest prize pool in major championship history.

For comparison, the Masters and PGA Championship each paid out $15 million this year, with Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas winning $2.7 million apiece. The winner of the US Open will receive $3.15 million, an increase over Jon Rahm’s $2.25 million last year.
