The Prince of Tennis II U-17 World Cup semifinal anime episode 1 release date, plot story and characters
For those unversed, the upcoming series will mark the return of The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup, which premiered in July 2022, and the second continuous Prince of Tennis television anime after the ONAs and OVAs. The Prince of Tennis website made the announcement.
Despite the lack of a teaser, the announcement did include the colours of Japan vs. Germany as a logo and a plot summary, which reads as follows: Ryoma Echizen is compelled to try out for the US Tennis Team after being kicked out of the U-17 training camp in Japan. If he wants to compete in this exciting sports anime, he’ll have to prove himself against hardened veterans and old pals.
As per several reports, the anime streaming platform Crunchyroll has stated that it will broadcast the anime when it airs in Japan, like it did when The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup began on TV Tokyo in July 2022.
This implies that any Crunchyroll subscribers can look forward to it when it launches in 2024.
Keiichiro Kawaguchi, the director of The Prince of Tennis II Hyotei vs Rikkai Game of Future, will direct the new series at Studio KAI and M.S.C., with Mitsutaka Hirota supervising the screenplays.
Akiharu Ishii, the character designer behind Blood+, will return as the principal animation director.
Plot
The U-17 World Cup Semifinal will pick up just where the U-17 World Cup arc left off, with Ryoma returning to compete in the U-17 World Cup as a member of the USA squad after being offered the opportunity by his brother Ryoga. During the U-17 camp, his brother recusing him was a big plot twist.
The issue that caused Ryoma to leave was a change of guard at the U-17 camp: the previous guard was replaced by new blood, and one of them, Byoudouin, thought he had a score to pay with Tokugawa and nearly brutalised him on the court before Ryoma intervened. Ryoma was kicked out of the camp as a result of his inability to intervene.
The sequel will focus on the USA U-17 training and how difficult it is even with Ryoma’s abilities. While the previous anime began this, the sequel intends to extend it and demonstrate how difficult it is to compete against former friends and allies, especially in doubles matches with unknown teammates.
