The plot of The Great Cleric kicks off when the God of Destiny of Earth places a wager with the Chief God of the world, who goes by the name Galdardia. If he loses, the God of Fate gets to pick ten average humans from Earth and give them to the Chief God. Next, the Supreme Being selects suitable hosts for these spirits.
One of the ten was a salaryman who resisted giving up on his death sentence. Neither the God of Destiny nor the Chief God, nor even the author, know how this salaryman will develop in Galdardia; the series introduced him as the protagonist, Luciel.

Luciel, a 17-year-old healer, is struggling to adapt to his new life as an adventurer. He is a wonderful guy who is actually very stubborn, and he has the skill of good luck.
