The Atypical Family Kdrama ending explained, is the end happy or sad and season 2 release date update details
On Sunday, June 9, 2024, The Atypical Family’s episode 12 (the conclusion) debuted on Netflix. The fantasy romance K-drama, which stars Jang Ki-Yong and Chun Woo-Hee as lead actors, centres on how a strange woman moves in with a family with superpowers and how that affects their life.
In the ending of The Atypical Family, Gwi-Joo conceals his neck ailment from Da-Hae. She quickly learns of this, though, and becomes terrified of losing him. Da-Hae is heartbroken because she believes she won’t be able to stop time and save him. For one day, Gwi-Joo asks her to keep it a secret from his family. Following his daughter Yi-Na’s dance competition at her school, he intends to inform his clan.
Dong-Hee, his sister (Claudia Kim), is unmarried as a result of calling off their wedding. Dong-Hee is forced to face the unpleasant reality of her ex-fiance Ji-Han because of Da-Hae and his sister Grace. Ji-Han pursues Dong-Hee at night in episode 12 and threatens her if she doesn’t wed him. Ji-Han gets afraid when Hyung-Tae (Choi Kwak-Rok) threatens him.
Yi-Na is anxious for her first-ever performance in front of a large crowd the next day. Families from both her and Da-Hae show up at the child’s school to encourage her. While travelling, Da-Hae and Gwi-Joo get a call from Gwi-Joo’s former fire department colleague. Gwi-Joo is curious about the 13-year-old fire event that involved Da-Hae.
Yi-Na is getting more nervous at school as she waits for her father. When Gwi-Joo does show up on time, Yi-Na and her group provide a fantastic performance. After her dance, Gwi-Joo and Da-Hae dash in different directions. She stops him after some time and asks him why. Da-Hae can tell by his expression that the moment has arrived.
Following Gwi-Joo’s departure, his father quickly arrives and tells Da-Hae that Man-Heum’s dream predicts that Yi-Na’s school will experience a fire. Conversely, Ji-Han makes a threat to meet Dong-Hee in the school’s room.
If she rejects him, he threatens to set everything on fire. He is a coward, she says, and he is incapable of doing such things. Ji-Han unintentionally lights the place on fire as she departs.
The fire gets worse and gets bigger very quickly. Yi-Na becomes trapped while trying to escape. Da-Hae locates her thankfully, but the pain doesn’t stop there. They are about to be crushed by a massive wall. But Gwi-Joo shows up on schedule and takes it. He requests that Da-Hae take Yi-Na and go. He ignores her desire that he refrain from going back in time. Gwi-Joo goes back 13 years and saves Da-Hae while Da-Hae rescues Yi-Na. The scene that follows depicts his family in mourning and makes a death hint.
Five years have passed since Gwi-Joo vanished during the fire at Yi-Na’s school as The Atypical Family comes to a close. The Bok family believes he passed away when he went back in time 13 years.
Da-Hae currently resides with Gwi-Joo’s family and is a mother of a five-year-old boy. The toddler’s superpower to bring anything from the past is revealed in the ending. Presenting Gwi-Joo’s photo, Da-Hae questions his son’s ability to do the seemingly impossible.
Her son is shown standing alongside Gwi-Joo in the last scene, indicating that he has brought his father back to the present. With teary eyes, the couple exchanges a smile. They eventually come to a pleasant conclusion.
The Atypical Family season 2
Despite the lack of an official announcement thus far, the popularity and positive reviews of the show imply that a continuation may be in the works.
Fans are hoping that ‘The Atypical Family’ will return to Netflix soon so they can continue to follow Gwi-ju and Da-hae’s exciting adventure.
Producers will assess national viewership and ratings following the publication of the first season’s final episode before determining whether to order a full 12 episodes of the drama.
All of our favourite actors will be back for Season 2, since the cast is most likely going to stay the same as Season 1. Every episode should also feature cameos from other well-known performers (e.g., Song Joong-Ki in Vincenzo’s Episode 8).
It is nearly impossible to predict with any degree of accuracy what will happen in Season 2, given the myriad aspects involved in composing it.

The Atypical Family cast includes Jang Ki-yong, Chun Woo-hee, Claudia Kim, Go Dim-shim, and Oh Man-seok.
