This year’s Meltwater Champions Chess Tour begins with the Airthings Masters 2022, we take a look at the format, schedule, standings and other details of the tournament.
In total, sixteen participants will compete in the round-robin stage of the online event, with eight moving on to the knockout stage.
Airthings Masters 2022 Chess Rules And Format
At the round-robin phases of The Airthings Masters, the round-robin will employ a football-style 3 point for a win, 1 point for a tie scoring system, and participants will earn cash bonuses for each rapid game played. The players will earn $750 for a victory and $250 for a draw.
Tournament Rules
Starting with move 1, the players have 15 minutes to complete all of their moves, plus a 10-second increment. A win earns 3 points, while a tie earns 1 point in the preliminary round.
If a tiebreak is necessary, the players will play two 5+3 games and, if necessary, a single Armageddon game, in which White has 5 minutes against Black’s 4, but a tie count as a win for Black. Before move 40, no draw offers are permitted.

The event will take place from February 19 to February 26, with action starting at 18.00 CET every day. The tournament is taking place in online mode due to travel restrictions.

Airthings Masters 2022 Prize Money Pool Breakdown
The in-game prizes can go up to $90,000 while the remaining prize fund will be awarded based on the position of players. The net prize pool for the tournament is 150,000 dollars.
