In the third over of the innings, Harshit Rana bowled Virat Kohli a full toss that appeared to be an over-the-waist no ball. Kohli was not able to make contact with the ball so he got caught and bowled.

Michael Gough who is the third empire concluded that the ball had dipped on the batter and that Kohli’s dismissal was lawful after the on-field umpire made the choice to refer the case to him.

Disappointed with the decision, Virat Kohli protested with the umpire before hitting the boundary rope with the bat. Commentator Harsha Bhogle said, “RCB have been robbed here.”

Law 41.7.1 of the ICC Playing Conditions states that โ€œAny delivery, which passes or would have passed, without pitching, above waist height of the striker standing upright at the popping crease is to be deemed to be unfair whether or not it is likely to inflict physical injury on the striker.โ€

If the bowler is seen making a delivery of this type then theย  umpire will promptly declare and indicate “No ball.”

Since Viratย  was not in the popping crease when the delivery occurred so he said it crossed his waist. Hoever, as per the replays, the ball’s trajectory fell below his waist. The ball would have passed Kohli further below the waist if he had been standing within the crease.
