Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur wrote on Twitter that he was sorry about the death of Shyam Saran Negi. “I’m sad to hear that India’s first voter, Shyam Saran Negi, has died. He did what he had to do and voted by mail for the 34th time on November 3. “This idea will always make me cry,” the CM wrote on Twitter.

Who Was Shyam Saran Negi? Early Life, Career, Bio And More!
Shyam Saran Negi worked as a school teacher in Himachal Pradesh before he retired. He was also the first person to vote in India. He was born on July 1, 1917, in Kalpa, Kinnaur, Bushahr State, when it was still ruled by the British. He died at his home on November 5, 2022, when he was 106 years old. During his life, he was also the oldest voter in India.
Negi was the first person to vote in India’s first general election, which was in 1951. He voted on October 25, 1951, and in every election until the day he died. Two days before he died on November 3, he also voted in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly election. He died owing to age related ailments.
Shyam who was a Hindu Rajut was married to Hira Mani with him having 3 sons and 5 daughters with the oldest son dying in 2022. His youngest son’s name is Chander Prakash Negi.
Creamated With Full State Honours!
Shyam Saran Negi died, and it was said that he will be cremated with full state honours. After Negi voted in the state Assembly election, Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Abid Hussian Sadiq went to his home to congratulate him.

A spokesperson for the Election Commission said, “We will always be grateful to him for his service to the country.””He inspired millions to vote, even before his demise, he voted for Himachal Pradesh Assembly Elections 2022 through postal ballot on November 2, 2022,” the Election Commission of India said in a tweet.
