Hailing from Utah, Tot’s demise was announced on Facebook by his foster mom, Ash Houghton.

The tiny furball, adored for his messy hair and unique mismatched colored casts, referred to as “bodankabonks” or “bonkers”, sadly succumbed after showing signs of pneumonia and related symptoms for over a week.

Taking to the viral Facebook page “Tater Tot and His Spudbuds”, an emotional Ash penned, “Hey Spudbuds. I’m honestly not sure how to start this post, but here it goes. Also today, our tiny spud, passed away suddenly in my hands.” She detailed how Tot’s energy levels had decreased over a few days, leading her to initiate a pneumonia protocol involving medicines and a nebulizer.
Possible underlying health condition of Tater Tot
There are speculations that Tot might have had an underlying heart condition. Houghton expressed her suspicions that the kitten had an enlarged heart, which ultimately “just couldn’t keep up with him.” However, due to his small size, the tests to confirm the same couldn’t be conducted.
She deeply added, “This tiny little potato has had such a profound impact on my heart, and I am so unbelievably happy I got to share him with the entire world.”
Tater Tot leaves fame behind
The kitten’s fame began in June, quickly spreading due to his endearing yet grumpy face and orangish coat. Tater Tot’s rise to online fame was not just about his appearance but also the light he shed on special needs animals and their recovery stories.
Found with a cleft palate and malformed legs by rescuers, Tater Tot’s challenging journey of physical hardships didn’t deter his spirit or the love he received from internet fans worldwide.
Ash Houghton, the co-director of a local rescue organization, Kitty CrusAIDe, took to Facebook to encourage fans of Tater Tot to contribute to the organization in the kitten’s memory.
