In the Masters group, GM Anish Giri emerged as the sole leader following a strategic endgame victory over GM Gukesh Dommaraju, securing a favorable position going into the first rest day. Giri, who faced multiple challenges before winning his first Tata Steel Chess tournament last year, now stands as the favorite. His endgame tactics against Gukesh earned him a remarkable score of 3.5/4, while co-leader Firouzja could only manage a draw against GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov.
Another notable winner of the day was GM Wei Yi, whose triumph coincided with GM Parham Maghsoodloo’s third consecutive loss. Meanwhile, the Challengers group witnessed a dynamic scenario with six leaders after three rounds, and three of them maintained their positions with victories today. Notably, Korobov secured his third consecutive win, utilizing the white pieces against the 16-year-old French GM Marc’Andria Maurizzi.
