In his quest of catching the leader Nodirbek Abdusattorov, US Open winner Fabiano Caruana suffered major setback with his loss against Magnus Carlsen on Sunday. Similarly, Indian wonderkid Pragg also lost his match against Richard Rapport and dropped to joint third place in the rankings. Also on Sunday, Indian prodigy Gukesh scored his victory of the tournament by winning against Parham Maghsoodlo to gather 2.5/8 points.
After eight round of matches, 18-year-old GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov is still at the top with one-point lead over nearest rivals Anish Giri and Wesley So. However, Magnus Carlsen showed that he is still alive in the title race with back-to-back wins, which has propelled him to third place alongside Pragg, Caruana, and Aronian at 4.5/8 points apiece.
