However, Fabiano Caruana managed to remain as a strong title contender with a comfortable victory against Indian wonderkid Gukesh. Similarly, Anish Giri managed to remain in title contention with 4/5 points after his draw against Arjun Erigaisi.
Among other matches of the day, Magnus Carlsen settled for draw against Jordan van Foreest and remained far behind the leading pack. Elsewhere, Wesley So earned his first win of the tournament to rise towards fourth position in the standings. On Saturday, seventh-round matches of Tata Steel Chess Masters will be played with numerous exciting matches on the card including Magnus Carlsen vs. Richard Rapport and Arjun Erigaisi vs. Nodirbek Abdusattorov.
