Parham Maghsoodlo was the sole winner out of the seven games played on Friday in the Masters group, with all the other games ending in ties. In the day’s most exciting match, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, 18, tied with nearest competitor Anish Giri to keep his half-point lead after reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen could only draw with third-placed Wesley So. Following these results, Abdusattorov is sitting at the top with 7.5/11 points and with only two rounds of matches left, it is highly likely that he will bag the title.
In Friday’s lone decisive match, Parham defeated Indian prodigy Pragg, who suffered his second straight loss. Elsewhere, Indian prodigy Gukesh settled for a draw in against fellow countryman Arjun Erigaisi. Owing to his draw, Erigaisi continues to play in the bottom spot alongside German youngster Vincent Keymer with only 4/11 points
