Hayle Lemi and Aberash Minsewo emerged triumphant in the men’s and women’s elite divisions, respectively, at the 2024 Mumbai Marathon. Hayle Lemi, the reigning course record holder, set an impressive time of 2:07:50 to secure the top position. Simultaneously, Aberash Minsewo claimed the women’s title by completing the race in 2:26:06.

2024 TATA Mumbai Marathon results, events list, winners, & best performers

Ethiopian athletes dominated all elite race podium positions. Haymanot Alew and Mitku Tafa secured silver and bronze in the men’s event with times of 2:09:03 and 2:09:58, respectively. In the women’s competition, Muluhabt Tsega claimed silver in 2:26:51, and Medhin Bejene achieved a personal best to secure the bronze in 2:27:34.

Among the Indian elite runners, Srinu Bugatha, the 2020 Mumbai Marathon champion, outpaced the 2023 champion Gopi T to win the men’s race in 2:17:29. Nirmaben Thakor Bharatjee triumphed in the women’s category with a time of 2:47:11. Gopi T secured second place in the men’s race with a time of 2:18:37, while Sher Singh Tanwar completed the Indian men’s podium in 2:19:37.

Nirmaben Thakor Bharatjee outperformed Reshma Kevate by a significant margin of 16 minutes and 23 seconds in the women’s race, while Shyamali Singh claimed the third spot among Indian women, finishing in 3:04:35. The 19th edition of the Mumbai Marathon, recognized as a World Athletics Gold Label Road Race event, unfolded on Sunday, showcasing impressive performances from both Ethiopian and Indian athletes.

The top 10 elite men’s runners featured two Indians with Srinu placed at the eighth spot and Gopi at 10th. “I was aiming for the course record but the last five kilometres were not good,” Indian Army’s Srinu said after his win, adding that he was not aware of marathon racing until 2013 but he has been working hard to improve his timing.
