Since October 2017, Taika and Blanchett have been the subject of a viral meme that has been circulating the internet for almost five years. The photo that inspired the meme is of Taika and Cate on the set of Thor: Ragnarok, in which he plays Korg and she plays Hela.
Cate is dressed in full costume, while Taika is dressed casually, as he also helmed the Marvel Cinematic Universe film, which looks amusing in and of itself.
They’re both staring at an iPad, clearly rehearsing her lines or discussing something in between scenes – and it’s already become a meme. Cate Blanchett usually represents a person or object, and Taika shows her something relating to it, with funny captions often added to the photo to add humorous effect.
A Filmmaker Reacts To The Trending Meme
Taika delightfully replied to the viral meme in the WIRED video. He had no idea what it was at first, pulling the sticker off the board and exclaiming, “Taika Waititi Cate Blanchett meme, what the heck is this?”
Then he realised he’d seen the amusing meme and joked, “Oh, when I’m showing her stuff on an iPad and people are like ‘when your wife gets home and you’re like look what my Wordle score was.”
“I was like, ‘This is how it’ll be, and I want you to do this because it’ll look cool.'” Because you’re going to have a zombie army and a gigantic wolf.’ She’s like, ‘I could’ve taken last year off,'” joked the filmmaker.
